In December 2006, Speaker Pelosi announced that Congressman Chris Van Hollen of Maryland would be taking over as Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee for the 2008 election cycle. After serving during the 2006 cycle as one of the DCCC’s top lieutenants, heading up candidate recruiting and co-chairing the DCCC's "Red to Blue" program, which gave dozens of winning candidates the resources and support they needed to succeed, Congressman Van Hollen was tapped to lead the DCCC to help strengthen and secure the Democratic Majority in the House.
